Gabinete Legal Moçambique (GLM), a leading Mozambique law firm and member of PLMJ International Legal Network, has been nominated for three awards, within the seventeen categories of the African Legal Awards - the international awards for legal services in Africa organised by the prestigious British magazine Legal Week.
The legal advice provided in a major oil & gas operation earned GLM the nomination in two categories, the "Energy & Natural Resources Team of the Year" and "Corporate Team of the Year". Also, the social responsibility projects that GLM has developed in Mozambique, in partnership with PLMJ Foundation earned GLM a nomination for the "CSR - Corporate Social Responsibility Award".
In the categories of "Energy & Natural Resources Team of the Year" and "Corporate Team of the Year," GLM competed with an operation that proved to be one of the biggest transactions of oil & gas of the year: the acquisition of a participating interest in the offshore oil block of the Rovuma Bay, in Mozambique. The operation involved the participation of a multidisciplinary team and was coordinated by the Mozambican Lawyers Josina Correia (oil & gas) and Amina Abdala (public and regulatory). The operation also involved carrying out work in various jurisdictions, and to this end, had the support of lawyers Ana Oliveira Rocha (oil & gas), Marta Pedro and Miguel Spinola (Mozambique Desk) of PLMJ Law Firm, GLM's partner.
Since 2012, Legal Week has organised the African Legal Awards as a way to highlight and reward law firms working in African countries for their commitment to the development of the law on this continent by promoting excellence and best practices. Africa has also been at the top of the international agenda with regard to transactions involving law firms, due to the important role they have in large investment operations and large infrastructure projects.
According to the partner who leads Gabinete Legal Mozambique, Tomás Timbane, "these nominations are very important for GLM and the Mozambican law. They show that it is worth focusing on the intelligence, quality and training of Mozambican lawyers ".
Such recognition, at a time when the GLM celebrates two years of legal practice, is a clear sign that the market recognises the effort and commitment, as well as the technical quality of GLM's lawyers.
In turn, the recognition of the investment the PLMJ Foundation has made in the Mozambican community and its artists through GLM merited the firm's nomination for the "Corporate Social Responsibility Award". Under the motto "A law firm as a space for culture", GLM, through the Foundation, is one of the most important cultural dynamos in the country, thanks to the policy of social responsibility it has put in place with the aim of valuing and curating local.
According to Tomás Timbane "Once again it has been demonstrated that PLMJ Foundation's CPLP (Community of Portuguese Language Countries) Collection is a huge asset in the promotion of local culture and its support for Mozambican and Angolan artists has been instrumental in the pursuit of a policy of social responsibility."
